When the girls come to Cara’s House it is exciting to see how God
begins to work in their lives, and they begin to blossom into the young
women He has intended them to be. We as parents love to see the joy on
their faces as often as possible.
As each resident approaches her due date, she will have three plans in place. Her hospital plan, which outlines who will be in the delivery room as her support person, what visitors she will allow after the birth of her baby, who she plans to notify by phone etc. She will also have either a Parenting Plan or an Adoption Plan, and thirdly she will have a plan in place for her departure from Cara’s House, six weeks after the birth of her baby.
This plan has been the most difficult to discuss, and come to terms with. We have very heavy hearts, when we discuss with the girls their options. It seems no matter which way they turn, their choices are less than acceptable, and certainly not any we ourselves would consider for our own children.
Our hearts are burdened with the need to provide each girl with continued safe and loving environments after their six-week period is up. Today we have no real alternative to returning each into their own lifestyle of abuse, neglect and the absence of emotional and spiritual support.
We learned first hand, it doesn’t work. We sent one of our residents, and her baby, back to a situation where she had no stability, no financial help, no emotional or spiritual support, and she called us within a few months, and asked for help. She couldn’t cope.
The transitional living facility has always been in the plan from the birth of this ministry, but as we busily prepared to receive girls into Cara’s House, we placed that plan on the back burner. Now as the girls are delivering their babies, and faced with leaving, we see the urgent need to move forward with Victory House.
I think that we, like any loving parent, would like to place our children in a safe, nurturing, and Godly environment.
I pray that the Plan for “After I Leave Cara’s House” becomes an exciting plan for these girls, filled with Hope!
